Pinchas 2018-19
The spear of zealous Phinehas ends Israel’s testings and failures in the wilderness. In this year’s parshah Pinchas teaching, we focus on God’s breaking of His followers in the midbar, the wilderness. Along the way, we learn an important principle regarding zealousness and hear an illustration of this principle preserved by European Jews; we compare Zimri and Korach’s rebellions; we look at a curious “broken” letter vav found in this Torah portion; and we remember several biblical figures who were broken in their journeys with God.
